Silicone Breast Augmentation in the UAE: A Patient Guide

Silicone breast augmentation in the UAE can increase breast volume, improve certain differences in size and restore fullness that has changed after pregnancy or weight loss. The operation uses silicone gel-filled implants, placed in a surgically created pocket. Choosing an implant is a long-term decision: breast implants are not lifetime devices, and future imaging or additional surgery may be needed.

An effective consultation considers proportions, tissue coverage and the shape you want, alongside the responsibilities of having an implant. The aim is a plan that fits your anatomy and expectations, rather than selecting a size from a photograph alone.

What silicone implants can and cannot achieve

Augmentation adds volume and can change breast projection. It may improve some asymmetry, although differences in the chest wall, nipple position or breast fold can remain. An implant cannot make two naturally different breasts identical.

Substantial loose skin or a low nipple position may require a breast lift as well. Simply choosing a larger implant does not reliably solve sagging and may create unwanted tissue stretch. During assessment, separate the wish for a larger breast from the need to change breast position.

Choosing implant size, shape and placement

Volume is only one part of implant selection. Width, projection, gel characteristics, surface and your own skin and breast tissue all affect the result. Two implants with the same volume can produce different shapes. Ask what range of dimensions your tissues can reasonably support and why.

The implant may be placed above or partly beneath the chest muscle, depending on the assessment. Each approach has trade-offs involving tissue coverage, movement and recovery. Incisions are commonly placed in the breast fold, with other options considered in selected circumstances. The consultation should explain the proposed pocket and scar, rather than present one technique as best for everybody.

Who may be a candidate?

Potential candidates have fully developed breasts, a clear personal reason for surgery and realistic expectations. Surgery is generally postponed during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Health conditions, nicotine use, prior operations and a history of problematic healing can affect suitability.

Bring information about breast symptoms, family history, previous scans and all medicines. An examination is essential: photographs and online advice cannot establish whether an implant, a lift, both, or no surgery is appropriate. Significant changes in weight or near-term pregnancy plans may influence the timing.

Preparation and the day of surgery

Before surgery, confirm the implant manufacturer and model, intended size range, facility arrangements and follow-up plan. Ask for the implant information supplied to patients and retain the device identification record afterwards. Understand what the consent process covers before committing to a date.

Tests and breast imaging depend on your health, age and history. The team should give written instructions about nicotine, fasting and medication management. Do not independently stop prescribed medication. Arrange someone to collect you and help during the first night and early recovery. Hospital stay and anaesthesia depend on the operation and clinical assessment.

Recovery after breast augmentation

Tightness, tenderness and swelling are common initially. A support bra, wound instructions and a gradual activity plan may be prescribed. The early position and firmness of the breasts are not the final result; settling takes time.

Many patients plan approximately one to two weeks away from desk work, while lifting, upper-body exercise and manual work need longer. Do not resume driving until you can control the vehicle comfortably, respond in an emergency and are no longer affected by medication. Your surgeon's review should guide this decision.

If you travel for surgery, agree on the duration of your local stay and scheduled checks. Implants do not remove the usual concerns about flying soon after an operation. Recovery, clot risk and access to aftercare should determine the plan.

Short- and long-term risks

Potential problems include infection, bleeding, altered sensation, visible rippling, displacement, asymmetry and scars that heal poorly. Scar tissue around an implant can tighten, causing capsular contracture, firmness, pain or a change in shape. Rupture and later replacement or removal are possible.

Seek urgent advice for sudden swelling, severe or increasing pain, fever or wound drainage. Chest pain or sudden difficulty breathing requires emergency care. Long after recovery, persistent new swelling, a lump, pain or a change in breast shape also needs assessment.

Rare implant-associated conditions

Breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma, or BIA-ALCL, is an uncommon but serious lymphoma associated more strongly with textured implants. It is different from ordinary breast cancer. Rare reports also describe squamous cell carcinoma and other lymphomas in the capsule around implants; the individual risk for these conditions is not well established.

Some patients report symptoms such as fatigue, joint pain or difficulty concentrating, often called breast implant illness. Their causes are not fully understood, and symptoms deserve medical evaluation. Discuss these issues during consent without assuming that every symptom has an implant-related cause or that removal will necessarily resolve it.

Monitoring silicone implants over time

Silicone rupture can be silent, so appearance and examination alone may not identify it. For people without symptoms, a commonly used monitoring recommendation is an initial ultrasound or MRI five to six years after implantation, then every two to three years. Your clinician should tailor follow-up to the implant, symptoms and applicable guidance; symptoms warrant assessment sooner.

Implant checks do not replace breast cancer screening. Tell the imaging service that you have implants when arranging mammography. Keep the implant record accessible and ask who will provide follow-up if you relocate.

Breast augmentation cost in the UAE

Compare a written, individual quotation rather than an isolated implant price. Cost factors include the device, surgeon, anaesthesia, facility, investigations and follow-up. Adding a lift changes the operation and its cost. Also budget for longer-term imaging and the possibility of later surgery. Ask what is included, what is excluded and how unexpected problems are managed.

Do silicone implants need replacement every ten years?

There is no single automatic replacement date for every implant. They are not lifetime devices, and the chance of a problem increases with time. Decisions about replacement or removal depend on symptoms, examination, imaging, the device and your preferences.

Can I breastfeed with breast implants?

Some people can breastfeed after augmentation, but milk production and nipple sensation can be affected. Incisions, implant placement and pre-existing breast anatomy matter. Discuss future feeding plans before surgery and seek feeding support if difficulties arise later.

Will silicone implants lift sagging breasts?

They may fill some deflation, but a low nipple position or considerable skin excess may require mastopexy. Ask for an explanation of the expected shape with augmentation alone and how that differs from an augmentation with a lift.

Can I choose my result by cup size?

Cup sizes are inconsistent between brands and cannot define a guaranteed surgical result. Discuss breast width, projection, existing asymmetry and preferred proportions. Sizing aids can support the conversation, but they do not predict every aspect of the healed breast.
