Scar Care After Plastic Surgery in Saudi Arabia and the UAE

A scar is part of normal healing

Every surgical incision creates a scar. Early scars may look pink, darker or slightly raised before gradually softening and fading. Maturation commonly continues for many months, and no product can guarantee that a scar disappears completely.

When silicone or massage may begin

Do not place silicone gel, sheets, creams or oils on an open wound unless the surgical team instructs you to do so. After the incision is fully closed, silicone may be considered. Massage should also wait until the surgeon confirms that healing is strong enough.

Sun and heat in the Gulf

Strong sun can worsen colour change in a healing scar. Clothing and suitable sun protection are important after the wound closes. Hot weather can increase sweating under garments or dressings, so keep the area managed as instructed and report persistent moisture or irritation.

Warning signs are not “just a scar”

Increasing redness, heat, pain, swelling, discharge, fever or wound opening may indicate a healing problem and needs prompt medical advice. A thick, itchy or expanding scar may need later assessment for hypertrophic or keloid scarring.

A follow-up plan

Dr. Elsayed Abdelbaki — الدكتور السيد عبدالباقي reviews the wound before recommending silicone, massage, sun protection or later treatment. Patients moving between Saudi Arabia and the UAE should know who will examine the scar in person if a problem develops.
